Après une introduction qui contextualise ce passage, en résumant l’histoire d’Ambā et en mettant en lumière la singularité du parcours de cette femme qui a cherché à déjouer son destin, le lecteur pourra lire l’extrait, reproduit à partir de l’édition de référence de Pune (BORI). Le texte en nāgarī est suivi d’une translittération en caractères latins avec signes diacritiques, accompagnée d’une traduction et de commentaires (analyse morpho‑syntaxique, explicitations de choix de traductions, clefs de lecture d’ordre culturel). This article presents an extract from Vyāsa’s Sanskrit Mahābhārata (5.187) describing the asceticism of Ambā, a secondary character in the epic who is reborn Śikhaṇḍinī, then transforms into a man to fight the man whom she holds responsible for her distress, Bhīṣma. After an introduction that contextualises this passage, summarising Ambā’s story and highlighting the singularity of the journey of this woman who sought to foil her destiny, the reader can read the extract, reproduced from the Pune Reference Edition (BORI).
