Un passage du récit cadre de nature mythologique sur l’origine de ces savoirs est étudié ici. Il explique comment les éléphants des origines victimes d’une malédiction voient leur descendance soumise aux maladies et aux hommes. Ce récit illustre à sa manière les relations originelles entre les éléphants et les humains et témoigne de l’aura divine des pachydermes. Le texte en devanāgarī est suivi d’une translittération en caractères latins, accompagnée d’une traduction commentée. Une introduction donne les éléments de contexte et une brève analyse. This article presents an excerpt from a Gajaśāstra, a technical treatise on elephants, containing veterinary, medical, capture and training knowledge. A passage from the frame story, of a mythological nature, on the origin of this knowledge is studied here. It explains how the original elephants, victims of a curse, saw their descendants subjected to disease and humans. This story illustrates in its own way the original relationship between elephants and humans and testifies to the divine aura of these pachyderms. The text in Devanagari is followed by a transliteration in Latin characters, accompanied by a commented translation.
