Nous proposons de considérer les différents emplois de jau en tant que variations de son identité sémantique qui consiste, selon nous, en la création d’un « maintenant » du discours en discontinuité avec ce qui précède (le contexte gauche). A partir d’un corpus écrit et oral, et en fonction d’un certain nombre de variables, parmi lesquelles : la mise en jeu de la temporalité (t), la nature de p (l’énoncé qui constitue la portée de jau), les caractéristiques distributionnelles, etc., nous distinguons quatre valeurs majeures de jau : valeur aspecto-temporelle, valeur argumentative, valeur endoxale et valeur confrontant deux points de vue. Nous étudions également les combinaisons de jau avec d’autres marqueurs discursifs – phénomène très fréquent en letton – en cherchant à révéler les enjeux discursifs et énonciatif dont ils sont les marqueurs. Notre recherche s’inscrit dans le cadre de la théorie des opérations énonciatives d’Antoine Culioli, et présente une contribution à l’étude des unités lexicales de différentes langues dans la diversité de leurs emplois. The present research focuses on the Latvian word jau. We propose to consider the different uses of jau as variations of its semantic identity which consists, in our opinion, in the creation of a 'now' of the discourse in discontinuity with what precedes (the left context). From a written and oral corpus, and according to a certain number of variables, among which: the involvement of temporality (t), the nature of p (the utterance which constitutes the scope of jau), the distributional characteristics, etc., we distinguish four major values of jau: aspecto-temporal value, argumentative value, endoxal value and value confronting two points of view. We also study the combinations of jau with other discursive markers – a very frequent phenomenon in Latvian – seeking to reveal the discursive and enunciative issues of which they are the markers. Our research falls within the framework of the theory of enunciative operations of Antoine Culioli, and presents a contribution to the study of lexical units of different languages in the diversity of their uses.
