Ethical Charter

Authors guarantee that the submitted text including all illustrations (scores, tables, etc.) are original and have never been published in the same language, in another journal, chapter, blogpost, or in another medium. Authors will also inform the editors of any extensive use of generative AI in the writing of the article and in the translation of quotations or references in the text. Additionally, articles submitted to Émergences cannot be under current evaluation for any other journal.

If the article submitted to Émergences is a French or English translation of a previously published article, the authors are obliged to notify the principle editor(s) who will decide with the editorial committee if the text is acceptable.

If score extracts in the text are not personal transcriptions, the author is obliged to provide the principle editor with proof of authorised dissemination signed by rights holders.

In accordance with international standards for ethical research, the author is obliged to avoid self-plagiarism or recycling, and more generally will consult “Avoiding Plagiarism, Self-plagiarism, and Other Questionable Writing Practices: A Guide to Ethical Writing” of the ORI (Office and Research Integrity), the guide Pratiquer une recherche intègre et responsable edited by CNRS or the Code de conduite européen pour l’intégrité en recherche by ALLEA (ALL European Academies).

Anonymous reviewers are obliged to consult the recommendations of the Ethical guidelines for peer reviewers published by COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) and to indicate any potential conflicts of interest to the principle editor(s) in advance. Comments, concerning the modification of the submitted text or the editorial committee’s evaluation sheet, must be constructive. If a submitted article is deemed inadequate or is refused, detailed suggestions for improvement must be made.

Reviews are carried out anonymously: reviewers must not know the identity of the author and vice versa. Only the principle editor(s) and members of the editorial committee know the identities and they are not obligated to divulge that information.

Reviewers are obliged to indicate any eventual conflicts of interest to the principle editor(s) and to write constructive feedback, while respecting academic propriety. A right to respond will be granted, if necessary, to the relevant author.

Interview and books reviews are evaluated by two members of the editorial committee. They must be consulted and reviewed by the author before online publication.
