Conforme aux savoirs scolaires définis par les programmes officiels, leur dimension romanesque leur permet aussi de témoigner de certaines réalités sociales, économiques et scolaires. Ainsi les livres destinés aux écoles de filles choisissent des héroïnes auxquelles les élèves peuvent s’identifier. L’article propose d’analyser la représentation de quelques-unes des figures féminines les plus fréquentes, afin de préciser le projet éducatif mis en œuvre : la paysanne, la couturière, la jeune bourgeoise en voyage, l’institutrice. Some common reading books from the end of the 19th century adopted a novelistic form, following the destiny of a fictional character, sometimes until adulthood. In accordance with the school knowledge defined by the official curricula, their novelistic dimension also allows them to bear witness to certain social, economic and school realities. Thus, books intended for girls’schools choose heroines with whom the pupils can identify.
