The “ecopoïetic” reading of The Furtives would like to put to the test the hypothesis of story performativity concerning the issues at stake in the ecological and social transition, thanks to back-and-forth discussions between the text and practical experimentation. What are the imaginary conceptions sharpened and invigorated by The Furtives and the ZESTE? Ces imaginaires cinématographiques permettent de nous interroger sur l’intérêt de telles innovations. Ils dressent le tableau d’un monde dans lequel l’artificialisation et la mécanisation de nombreuses activités mènent à une perte de contrôle sur celles-ci, ce qui nous ferait courir le risque, à terme, d’être privés de nos qualités d’humains. Cependant, nous montrerons que ces films ne s’interrogent pas pour autant sur la viabilité de ce type de société. En effet, ces fictions n’insistent pas sur les contraintes que ces transformations font pourtant peser sur l’environnement. Face à la crise écologique l’emprise des innovations technologiques sur l’ensemble des sociétés, loin d’apparaître comme une solution, risque au contraire d’être identifiée comme une partie du problème. Our goal is to show how science fiction films have dealt with the augmentation of bodily and cognitive faculties. These cinematographic imaginaries allow us to question the interest of such innovations. They depict a world in which the artificialization and mechanization of many activities leads to a loss of control over them. This would mean that we would run the risk, in the long term, of being deprived of our human qualities. However, we will show that these films do not question the viability of this type of society. Indeed, these fictions do not insist on the constraints that these transformations nevertheless impose on the environment.
