De nouveaux récits, des répertoires iconographiques fleurissent et s’étiolent à grande vitesse. Le problème est désormais de s’orienter dans ces cosmographies imprévisibles : d’un côté, nous sommes face à un hyperobjet difficile à comprendre et à manipuler, à savoir l’effondrement systémique global, et de l’autre, le monde quotidien semble nier le pire ou même le mettre en valeur dans une véritable esthétique de la dystopie. Pour sortir de cette aporie intellectuelle et éthique, il faut accepter l’idée que nous sommes en présence d’un changement de paradigme aux conséquences anthropologiques difficilement prévisibles. Il est nécessaire alors de reterritorialiser l’événement anthropocène à partir d’un regard périphérique et narratif : ne plus considérer seulement l’échelle mondiale, mais aussi toutes les formes locales de la grande transformation qui est en train de s’opérer. Dans cette cartographie, il peut être utile de réfléchir à partir de catégories simples et de regarder ce phénomène depuis la marge, en l’occurrence à travers le point de vue de quelques essayistes et écrivains qui, plus que beaucoup d’autres, semblent saisir les symptômes et les issues de la nouvelle ère incertaine qui nous entoure. The Anthropocene is a total cultural fact that is changing the collective imagination. New narratives, iconographic atlases and unpredictable cosmographies are flourishing and fading fast. The problem is to find one’s bearings, because on the one hand we have a hyperobject that is difficult to understand and manipulate, the global systemic collapse, and on the other the everyday world that seems to deny the worst or even underline it in a veritable aesthetic of dystopia. To break out of this cognitive, intellectual and ethical impasse, we need to accept the idea that we are in the presence of a paradigm shift, with anthropological consequences that are difficult to foresee. The operational idea is to reterritorialize the Anthropocene event in the peripheral sphere: not only the global scale, but also all the local forms of the great transformation that is taking place.
