La version allemande (Im Kampf um Gott, 1885) avait suscité un accueil très favorable de la part des voix progressistes de l’époque, contribuant ainsi de façon décisive à l’entrée de Lou Andreas-Salomé dans le monde littéraire germanophone. Quant à la version néerlandaise, il suffit de regarder le paratexte pour comprendre le grand silence qui l’entoure, mais le texte a aussi été desservi par le mépris général de la germanistique envers le néerlandais et par la préface d’Hugenholtz, pasteur raillé par ses contemporains pour son moralisme suranné. L’article interroge enfin les motivations de l’autrice et souligne la place de Lou Andreas-Salomé dans le contexte des relations germano-néerlandaises. This contribution focuses on a blank page in the acknowledgement of Lou Andreas-Salomé’s work: his Dutch self-translation In den strijd om God (1886). The German version (Im Kampf um Gott, 1885) met with very positive responses from the progressive voices of the time, thus making a decisive contribution to Lou Andreas-Salomé’s entry into the German-speaking literary world. As for the Dutch version, observations of the paratext point to the sociolinguistic and aesthetic reasons for its unpopularity and the imposing silence that surrounds it: it is both the representations emanating from Germanists towards the Dutch as well as the preface given by Hugenholtz, a pastor mocked by his contemporaries for his old-fashioned moralism, that were largely disqualifying.
