L’écart entre la visibilité universitaire et la réalité du travail éditorial est l’un des enseignements majeurs de l’expérience relatée par l’auteur de ces lignes, rédactrice en chef de Slavica Occitania depuis 2007. Par ailleurs, réfléchir à l’enthousiasme désintéressé qui anime tous ceux et toutes celles qui prennent part à la vie de Slavica Occitania — rédacteurs en chef, éditeurs scientifiques, auteurs, traducteurs — soulève la question du rapport des institutions universitaires et des centres de recherches à « leurs » revues. Ce faisant, elle invite à une réflexion plus large que sur la seule slavistique en Occident, puisqu’elle touche à une question dont le caractère politique ne fait aucun doute : celle du statut de la recherche en sciences humaines et sociales au sein d’une société donnée et celle de la reconnaissance que cette société (son gouvernement) veut bien lui reconnaître. Cette question, comme nous le rappelle le second mandat de la présidence des États-Unis de Donald Trump, est sensible même dans les démocraties. Или, быть может, стоит предпочесть более личный опыт, пренебречь цифрами и данными, но рассказать о закулисье редакторской работы? Именно это первоначальное колебание стало причиной двойного подхода к представлению Slavica Occitania: сначала — фактическая информация об этом выходящем дважды в год журнале, основанном в Тулузе в 1995 году, выпуски которого представляют собой объeмные тематические тома на французском языке; затем — взгляд на ту работу, которая осуществляется за кулисами ради поддержки издания научного славистического журнала, публикуемого в французской провинции и не связанного ни с одним из центров славистических исследований. Разрыв между академической реальностью и реальностью редакторской деятельности — один из важнейших уроков, извлечённых автором этих строк, главным редактором Slavica Occitania с 2007 года. Размышления о бескорыстном энтузиазме, который движет всеми, кто участвует в жизни Slavica Occitania — главными редакторами, научными редакторами, авторами, переводчиками, — заставляют поднять вопрос об отношении университетских учреждений и исследовательских центров к «своим» журналам. Is a historical overview, some statistics, and a few factual details about the content of the articles enough? Or would it be better to offer a more personal account, ignoring all that data, but revealing the behind-the-scenes of the editorial work? This initial hesitation gave rise to a two-part presentation of Slavica Occitania: first, some factual information about this biannual journal, founded in 1995 in Toulouse, whose issues most often take the form of substantial thematic volumes published entirely in French; second, an insight into the behind-the-scenes efforts made to sustain and defend the journal — a scholarly periodical in Slavic studies, published outside the capital and unaffiliated with any dedicated Slavic research centre. The gap between academic visibility and the reality of editorial work is one of the key lessons drawn from the experience shared by the author of these lines, editor-in-chief of Slavica Occitania since 2007. Moreover, reflecting on the selfless enthusiasm that drives all those involved in the life of Slavica Occitania — editors-in-chief, academic editors, authors, translators — raises the question of how academic institutions and research centres relate to “their” journals. In doing so, it invites a broader reflection that goes beyond Slavic studies in the West, touching on an issue whose political nature is undeniable: the status of research in the humanities and social sciences within a given society, and the degree of recognition such research receives from that society (and its government).
