Si le lien de ce corpus gros de plusieurs centaines de poèmes avec la petite et la grande actualité paraît évident, il s’estompe pourtant avec le temps qui passe, de sorte que l’Inventaire, qui paraît en 1655 et compile vingt ans de publication, engage un rapport différent avec des événements pour une large part déjà oubliés. Par les grandes étapes de sa genèse, l’œuvre témoigne par ailleurs de la manière dont ce dernier a prétendu passer du rôle de farceur, commentant les faits d’actualité, à celui d’« auteur » de la Muse normande, dont la vie entière aurait été consacrée à l’élaboration de ce monument, érigé à la mémoire d’un Rouen déjà disparu. A printer-bookseller by profession, David Ferrand (1590?-1660) was also a poet and a facetious author, who had the original concept, to print since 1621, each year, under the title of “La Muse normande”, booklets composed of pieces in verse and in purinic language to comment and laugh at current events. If the link between this corpus of hundreds of poems and the small and the big news seems obvious, it fades away as time goes by, so that the Inventory, which D. Ferrand published in 1655, compiling twenty years of publication, engages a different relationship with events that have already been largely forgotten.
