This paper focuses on the tragedy Holoferne which was supposedly written and staged by Catherine de Parthenay in La Rochelle in 1573-1574, by observing the written testimonies which evoke it, as well as other more circumstantial elements (the literary portraits of Catherine de Parthenay, the other texts that remain of her), to reflect on what this 16th century women’s tragedy could have been, the only one (?) which literary history has kept a trace of.
