Cette situation est liée à la faiblesse du Parlement, mais aussi au manque d’intérêt des politistes français pour l’étude des institutions. Depuis le début des années 2000, les travaux se sont toutefois multipliés et les politistes français participent désormais aux débats internationaux. Dans une première partie, l’article évoque le développement des études parlementaires en France, particulièrement en science politique ; il propose un bilan des acquis de la recherche et les situe dans le contexte international. Dans un second temps, l’article examine l’agenda de recherche pour les politistes français versés dans l’étude des Parlements, en distinguant défis méthodologiques et priorités thématiques. In France, the study of Parliament by political science has long been underdeveloped. This situation is linked to the weakness of Parliament, but also to the lack of interest among French political scientists in the study of institutions. Since the early 2000s, however, there has been an increase in research, and French political scientists are now playing an active role in international debates. The first section of the article examines the development of parliamentary studies in France, particularly within the field of political science, and provides an overview of what has been achieved, placing it in an international context. D’abord, la complexité des assemblées modernes, organisées par des lignes de clivages irréductibles, n’aide pas à fonder un diagnostic commun. Ensuite, les grandes options méthodologiques de la recherche soulèvent des difficultés tenant à l’informalité d’une partie de la vie parlementaire. Enfin, la spécialisation disciplinaire conduit souvent à se priver de la compréhension d’une partie des processus à l’œuvre. Face à ces difficultés, cette contribution prône non seulement un pluralisme de la démarche de recherche mais également un systématisme de la comparaison, y compris vis-à-vis d’objets extra-parlementaires. This contribution argues that the challenge of achieving consensus on the role of parliaments in contemporary governance can be attributed to three interwoven issues. Firstly, the complexity of modern assemblies, organised along irreducible dividing lines, makes it difficult to arrive at a common diagnosis. Secondly, the major methodological options for research raise difficulties because of the informality of part of parliamentary life. Finally, disciplinary specialisation can lead to a lack of understanding of some of the processes at work.
