I look at the various sources for this change and for the literary heritage of the blond 1831 Elizabeth, a less complex, more ethereal character than her predecessor. I compare those two Elizabeths with the Creature, showing that a slightly different image of the Monster is conveyed, as well as a different vision of femininity. These changes impact the epistemological questions which will be tackled in part II. Cet article s’intéresse à l’évolution du personnage d’Elizabeth Lavenza dans Frankenstein entre les éditions de 1818 et de 1831. Je cherche à analyser les sources de ce changement et l’héritage littéraire qui est celui de la blonde Elizabeth en 1831, moins complexe et plus éthérée qu’en 1818.
