Si la réforme est particulièrement contrainte dans un contexte polarisé, l’article montre que Biden semble avoir tiré les leçons des tentatives d’ouverture d’Obama et joue pleinement la carte majoritaire et partisane, en dépit de sa rhétorique modérée. This article discusses the governing tactics of the Biden administration in light of its record three months after Biden’s inauguration. Considering the extent of polarization in the 117th Congress, the 46th President has a limited leeway. The Obama “post-partisan” precedent illustrated the limits of reaching across the aisle. Grâce à un succès dans ses actions militantes mais aussi dans les urnes, ce mouvement a modifié dans une certaine mesure la composition de l’échiquier politique états‑unien, et, à travers le mécanisme des primaires ouvertes, celle du Parti démocrate en elle‑même. Cet article revient sur cette stratégie socialiste de contestation par primaire en l’analysant comme réponse au contexte institutionnel particulier du pays. Il examine dans un second temps les différentes approches au sein du mouvement qui, loin d’être unifiées dans leur attitude vis-à-vis du Parti démocrate, parviennent toutefois à proposer un projet politique commun. In recent years, the United States has been experiencing a socialist revival, which has manifested itself through the successes of various organizations, publications but also now media-savvy politicians. Thanks to measured successes in militant actions and in the ballot boxes, this movement has modified to some extent the composition of the American political scene, and through the mechanism of open primaries, that of the Democratic Party. This article revisits this socialist strategy of primary challenges, seeing it as a response to the country’s particular institutional context.
