Présentation

Encounters in Translation is an interdisciplinary, Diamond Open Access (free of charge to authors and readers) and double-blind peer-reviewed journal. It is aimed at scholars from a variety of disciplines who place translation at the heart of their work. Conceived as a space of reflection on the critical significance of translation, it interrogates the processes of mediation and refraction of linguistic, cultural and power differentials at play in knowledge production and circulation. Encounters goes beyond the common perception of translation as source-target transfer, understanding translation instead as both a historical and a contemporary practice, and as a transdisciplinary object of enquiry encompassing highly interconnected, diverse and elusive processes of mediation. Operating an open, multilingual, and community-supported translation policy, the journal promotes translation as an emerging paradigm in open science that can contribute to contesting the uncritical use of machine- and AI-generated translation, and its linguistic, cultural and epistemological ramifications.

Papers may be submitted in French or English. Submissions in other languages may also be entertained, subject to confirmation by the editors. Papers may be submitted as a contribution to a regular or special issue.

The third issue of Encounters in translation has been produced with the kind support of Bodies in Translation, Knowledge and Sustainability in Cultural Translation (Department of Culture Studies and Oriental Languages, University of Oslo), funded by the Research Council of Norway (project number 315928) and with the support of the Edwin C. Gentzler Translation Center (University of Massachusetts Amherst). The multilingual translation of its contents would not have been possible without the dedication of a committed community of self-translating authors and translators (credited alongside the respective contributions), as well as language coordinators (Aiman Al Owaisi, Deniz Malaymar Buts, Kyung Hye Kim), and proofreaders (Bandar Altalidi, Doaa Embabi, Jungmin Hong, Hortensia (Aba) Parlog). In keeping with the journal's open, multingual, and community-supported translation model, additional translations will be added as they become available.

Conformément au modèle de traduction ouvert, multilingue et soutenu par la communauté de la revue, d'autres traductions seront ajoutées au fur et à mesure de leur production.
